PURIS organic pea protein contains all nine essential amino acids and is naturally rich in branched-chain amino acids, including leucine. Its PDCAAS is below 1.0, but in a balanced, protein-adequate diet it is a high-quality protein source, and formulators can meet protein targets by blending with complementary ingredients or adjusting usage per serving.

All PURIS organic ingredients are grown in North America. We contract with certified organic growers in multiple regions of the United States and Canada to diversify supply and reduce weather risk. Our primary pea-growing states are Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, and our organic soybeans are grown in the USA by certified organic farmers.

Pea protein is organic when every step meets USDA Organic standards: the peas are grown on certified organic farmland without synthetic pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or genetic modification, and they are processed in a certified organic facility. PURIS meets Strengthening Organic Enforcement (SOE) criteria, runs on-site organic inspections at all facilities, and has operated organic and non-GMO only facilities for more than 20 years.

Non-GMO means the crop was not genetically modified. USDA Organic includes that and goes further: organic peas are grown on certified organic land without synthetic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, and the whole supply chain is certified and inspected. Every PURIS pea ingredient is non-GMO, and 100% of our ingredients are also available certified organic. PURIS organic pea proteins are also certified Glyphosate Residue Free.

We use a water-based extraction process with mechanical separation, with no hexane or other chemical solvents. It separates certified organic yellow peas into protein, starch and fiber, then purifies and de-flavors the protein to more than 80% protein content. Processing water is recaptured, treated and reused in a closed-loop system.

Organic pea starch comes from the same water-based process that produces our organic pea protein. Once the protein is separated, the starch is purified as a co-product, so every part of the pea is used. We offer it as a native cook-up starch (OPS85), a pre-gelatinized instant starch for applications without heat (OPS85-PG), and a ready-to-eat starch (OPS85-RTE).
